The Atrium — An Ambisonic Music Installation & InterArts — Allegory
Art Installation & Performance
2022

The art installations “Atrium” and “InterArts” are part of the 2022 Future Stages performance. Based on the principle of a VR cave, literally and figuratively, visitors experience an immersive journey through a cavernous world interspersed with ancient architecture, travelling from one performance to the next.

The projections of the virtual environment act as a backdrop for the performances and a spatial art installation in itself, using game technologies to aggregate performative arts.

PARADIGM SHIFT

By Maria Bürger
Art Installation
2020

Artificial intelligence is one of the most controversial topics of our time: approval encounters rejection, euphoria encounters fear. How do these different perspectives compare? The artistic VR experience “PARADIGM SHIFT” explores a changing relationship between the participant and a virtual assistant similar to Siri or Alexa. The virtual assistant accompanies the viewer’s journey through the scenario via a real-time dialogue interface. Over time, the assistant’s attitude towards the viewer changes. The degree of control which the assistant transfers to the viewer varies accordingly: free choice turns to manipulation; authority to powerlessness.

A MATTER OF TIME

By Maria Bürger
Hybrid Board Game & Research Project
2020

Time is a fundamental yet intangible aspect of human existence. “A Matter of Time” is a serious game that explores how linear and circular time perception influence decision-making. The game combines a physical board game with augmented reality elements, creating a multimodal game medium.

The findings analyze gameplay and decision-making patterns, providing valuable insights into the profound impact of time perception on thought processes and actions. Consequently, they offer a deeper understanding of this essential facet of human experience.

THE PUPPET FACTORY

Vertical Slice VR Game
2017

Immersive storytelling in the tradition of classic horror literature through interaction, rather than words, is the goal of “The Puppet Factory”. In this XR experience in the fashion of an escape game, players make their way through the abandoned building, solving puzzles and exploring the grotesque environment of a long-forgotten place.

Overcoming the limitations of the virtual space by an elevator, players navigate through a variety of increasingly surreal rooms. The tension rises through an interplay of empowerment and denial. Leaving as much of the dread as possible to the player’s imagination was the key philosophy in the creation of this vertical slice.
