Baltic Game Industry –
Empowering a Booster for Regional Development
Research Project
2022
Under the BSGI project, game incubators and business developers were
provided with tools to enhance their preparedness in a rapidly growing and constantly evolving industry.
The primary challenge addressed was the need for a well-balanced approach in the game industry,
which is among the most dynamic creative sectors globally.
Despite this dynamism, business support often lacks specificity.
The sector faces the challenge that innovation intermediaries possess limited knowledge
about the creative nuances of the game industry and how to effectively support game startups.
These intermediaries commonly categorize them as either ICT or media, thereby constraining the
attractiveness of support programs for game startups and limiting the overall effectiveness of the assistance provided.
To thrive, the game industry requires a well-balanced ecosystem, a burgeoning market, and a conducive environment.
On one side, the mature industries of the Nordics offer profound insights into industry mechanisms,
while on the other side, emerging industries from the Baltics introduce innovative products.
DE:HIVE played a significant role by conducting the Workshop “Bridging the Gap”,
focusing on establishing long-term financing in the game industry, specifically focusing on serious game startups.
